I know, the title is a bit weird. When I have thought about resistance, it’s usually not positive. Like for instance, for some reason I just resisted writing a new blog for two months after committing to writing a new one weekly.
Resistance is one of my favorite topics as a yoga teacher. There are so many ways in which we resist in our lives. Humans really love to resist change, and most of the times it is us in our very own way. We do this for a myriad of conscious and unconscious reasons. Sometimes we’ve had a bad experience around a similar situation and we’ve created a story around that particular thing and are collecting evidence to just how horrible it will be. Sometimes, it’s the unknown aspect that stops us in our tracks. Sometimes our ego likes to keep us from moving forward in a way that could be very beneficial to us. Whatever the reason, resistance is very real. We all do it, we all experience it from those around us, and we’ve all experienced the felt sense in our bodies and usually some consequences to boot.
When I started writing this blog, my intent was to talk mainly about the above familiar aspects of this particular topic. However, I decided to actually google the word and was surprise with the definition that captured my attention:
“The refusal to accept or comply with something”
“Prevent something by action or argument. The ability to not be affected by something especially adversely”
I presently wear a bracelet that is engraved with the phrase (pardon my french) “Unfuckwithable”. I had to buy it when I saw it, because someone had recently sent me a definition of this which is:
“When you are truly at peace and in touch with yourself, and nothing anyone says or does bothers you, and no negativity or drama can touch you.”
This is where I believe I’ve discovered that there is an art to resistance. This is a two fold situation;
First, we need to become aware of our inner landscape, by shedding light on our patterns, our conditioning, our unconscious operating, and become deeply aware of when and where we resist in our lives that doesn’t serve us. This becomes easier over time. We can feel the resistance in our bodies, we procrastinate, we self sabotage, ect…….. And then we have a choice. Do we continue to resist, or do we move forward and step into our power.
Secondly, we become completely unfuckwithable. We refuse to accept and comply with that which doesn’t resonate at our highest and best, and as we do so we move from a place of being completely centered within ourselves. Other’s resistance and drama won’t touch us.
Think about how this could shift something in your life. Try thinking about something very small at first, and then over time allow it to expand into larger areas of your life. Think about on a larger scale if we all shed light on our own inner darkness, stepped past our conditioning and fear, opened our eyes, and stood up together as a bunch of unfuckwithable spiritual cosmic gangsters?!??
Perhaps this resonates, or maybe you just felt a ton of resistance come up. From whatever space you are, I honor you and see the divine being you are.
Blessing of Joy and Bliss
